With summer now well and truly underway, it’s the time of year to go outdoors and spend quality time with family and friends.

Read on to discover some of the local events that our team is looking forward to attending, and pop your favourites in your diary so that you don’t miss out.

1. Love Supreme Jazz Festival, 5 – 7 July

Glynde Place, East Sussex

A stone’s throw from our office, the Love Supreme Jazz Festival returns to Glynde Place this July. The line-up features some of the biggest names in jazz and funk music, making it an unmissable event for fans of these genres.

As well as the live performances, you can also:

  • Enjoy DJ sets from Radio 2 DJs Romesh Ranganathan and DJ Spoony on Saturday night
  • Pick up some new music at the Rough Trade Record store, with artists dropping in throughout the day for album signings
  • Take part in drop-in sessions for the whole family in the kids’ area.

Bring the whole family together to enjoy an unforgettable weekend of live music together.

2. Lewes Festival of Song, 7 July

St Anne’s Church, Lewes

If you have an interest in classical music and art, the Lewes Festival of Song may be the perfect destination for you.

Each July, the event features a series of musical arrangements from exceptional singers. This year, three concerts will take place through the day, featuring music by Samuel Barber, folk song arrangements from Britten, and more.

3. Much Ado About Nothing at Lewes Castle, 13 – 14 July

Lewes Castle

This summer, in the beautiful grounds of Lewes Castle, Moving Parts Theatre Company will stage four productions of Much Ado About Nothing with a modern twist. Set in the 1960s and featuring contemporary Italian pop music, this is set to be a performance to remember. It’s a great opportunity to pack a picnic and enjoy this classic comedy from the Bard.

Event organisers insist that the show will go on no matter the weather, so be sure to dress appropriately, as the great British summer can be fickle!

4. Urban Van Fest, 19 – 21 July

Plumpton Racecourse, Lewes

Urban Van Fest is the ultimate event for those who love to see the world from their camper van.

As well as live music, food and drink, and (of course) camping, you can also visit the wellness area, go window shopping on Van Alley, and attend talks on subjects such as converting your own camper van, security for motorhomes, and experiences of life as a digital nomad travelling the world in a camper van.

Be inspired to fulfil your travel ambition while also supporting a great cause – the festival will be raising money to support The Samaritans. You can meet representatives from the charity at the event to learn more about their work.

5. Chiddfest Chiddingly Music and Beer Festival 2024, 19 – 21 July

Chiddingley, East Sussex

Just a short drive from Lewes, from 19 – 21 July you can enjoy live music and great food and drink – as well as camping for those who don’t want to miss a moment – at Chiddfest. The music and beer festival is now in its 10th year, so expect plenty of additional cheer to celebrate.

6. Lammas Fayre, 3 – 4 August

Weald & Downland Living Museum, Chichester

This immersive event will transport you back to medieval England as you celebrate blessing the first fruits of harvest. The Black Knight Historical Group will host a medieval fayre around the market square, within the living museum’s 40 acres of beautiful grounds.

Visitors can bring a picnic or purchase refreshments at the Shepherd’s Hut on-site as you learn about the traditions and lifestyle of our medieval ancestors. Dogs are permitted in the grounds provided they are on leads, so this could be an educational and fun day out for the whole family.
