6 beautiful beaches to visit with the family this summer in the south of England

As the weather gets warmer and school finishes for the summer, now is the perfect time for a family trip to the seaside.

There are so many beautiful beaches here in the south of England that it can be tough to choose where to start. Whether you want to take a relaxing dip in the sea, indulge in an ice cream, or try your hand at some old-fashioned amusements, there’s something for everyone.

Read on to discover six stunning beaches for you to visit with your family this summer.

1. Camber Sands

Camber Sands is one of the loveliest sandy beaches in East Sussex. The golden sands and clean water are perfect for building sandcastles and paddling with your children and grandchildren.

The dunes are home to amazing wildlife and plants, and there are plenty of activities for you to try. Remember to bring a bucket for crabbing, and the sea wind and flat beach also create ideal kite-flying conditions!

With a car park, toilets, and a variety of cafés nearby, Camber Sands has everything you need for an incredible day out with your family. And in the summer, the beach is patrolled by RNLI lifeguards, offering you peace of mind when taking care of your children and grandchildren.

2. Bexhill Beach

A mix of sand and shingle, the gorgeous seafront of Bexhill Beach is one of the best places for a leisurely stroll by the water. And since parts of the beach are dog friendly, why not bring along your four-legged friend so the entire family is together?

The long stretch of promenade that runs parallel to the beach provides a beautiful view as well as being a brilliant place for a family walk or bike ride. Or, if you’re feeling more adventurous, the straight path could be a fantastic place to learn how to roller skate!

If the weather turns on your trip, you still have plenty of options to keep your children and grandchildren entertained. Either enjoy a cuppa and a slice of cake in the famous Sovereign Light Café or peruse the nearby Bexhill Museum.

3. Brighton Beach

Brighton Beach is one of the most famous beaches in the UK, and with good reason. With a four-mile promenade and the oldest aquarium in the world, there is always something going on to keep your family entertained.

For adventure-seekers, there are plenty of water sports you can get stuck into at Brighton Beach, including:

  • Wakeboarding
  • Stand-up paddle boarding
  • Windsurfing
  • Kayaking

Traditional fish and chips are available all along the beach but there is also a wide range of cafés and restaurants to choose from if you fancy something a little bit different.

4. Littlehampton

With two award-winning beaches – the pebbled East Beach and the sandy West Beach – Littlehampton has something for the whole family.

During the summer, there are always activities happening around the coast. Whether you stop to watch a performance at the Stage by the Sea or enjoy a bite to eat at the East Beach Café, the beautiful surroundings and welcoming atmosphere are what make Littlehampton one of the best beaches on the Sussex Coast.

5. Viking Bay

If you fancy travelling a little further from home, Viking Bay in Kent could be the perfect weekend break.

The beautiful horseshoe-shaped bay is the main attraction in Broadstairs. With all the amenities you might need – including lifeguards in the summer, changing huts, and public toilets – Viking Bay is designed to wash away all your worries.

There’s even a lift built into the cliffs at the south side of the beach so you don’t have to make the trek back to town.

Broadstairs was a favoured holiday destination for Charles Dickens, who wrote Our English Watering Place about the beach. If you’re interested in his work, you can visit Bleak House, where he wrote David Copperfield.

6. Bournemouth beach

Beautiful Bournemouth is home to seven miles of award-winning sandy beaches as well as countless activities to keep everyone entertained for the day or the whole weekend.

You could take a walk down the pier, build a sandcastle, or have a go on some of the funfair rides. And if the weather isn’t on your side, there are also lots of indoor attractions to amuse you, including soft play for the kids, a model village, and steam railways.
